Kinja'd!!!

I’m not asking you to buy my car, I’m asking just asking someone to buy my car... however...

(Reposted for those who weren’t awake at 4AM)

If you happen to have a few thousand dollars sitting around and a place to put it, by all means bid away!

Regardless, what I am asking you to do is click on the link and look at the great job the guys at Bring a Trailer did at presenting my automobile.

You can also feel free to click the links to my adventures with the Merkur and reminisce before she’s no longer under my care.

My good friend and soon-to-be roommate who is majoring in Telecommunications would like you to watch the video he filmed and edited for the car which you can find here:

Here’s the link to the listing; there will be one more Jalopnik-y piece that will come out after the car is gone.

Thank you for the support over the years, you guys are a large reason why I’m going to school for journalism.

You haven’t heard the last of me.

UPDATE:

There are two days left in the auction and the car is still at triple digits. I don’t like talking about money, but that simply is not enough to buy the car.

There is a reserve, however I really need the car sold by the time I move away in less than a month.

This, then is me asking you to buy my car.

Please buy my spectacular automobile.

Please bid on it.

I went on the Untitled Car Show to talk about it and everything. It’s a great buy, now please, let’s get my car to quadruple digits.

Depends on what you want out of it.

If you’re buying it cause you like the story and want to have another car to play around with and work on there is very little currently wrong with it.

If you want to make it a showcar there’s quite a bit wrong.

The bodywork and paint suck, but they’re part of the story.

The bi-wing is inexplicably packed with leaves, some of the body cladding is slightly loose.

I feel like the listing does a good job at explaining what the car is: a fun, drivable project.

This would be the perfect starting point for a stage rally car. If you have an open license that is. You need experience before they will let you run a group 5 car.

I was making a joke about the 100,000 posts that happened yesterday, about things wrong with people’s cars.

sorry, these cars aren’t that great. They don’t have much monetary value.

There might still be some hope for you since most bidding occurs near the end (like the final 12 hours). What is your reserve? Lots of people hate reserve auctions because it can be a waste of time with all that effort bidding and STILL nobody wins! Just start the bidding at what you want to get for it.

Does BAT work like eBay works? Like the proxy bidding, where you can just enter your max bid? And for eBay’s reserve auctions, if your max bid is over the reserve, then your bid is automatically raised to the reserve.

You can also send this to graverobber for inclusion on NPOCP so we can vote on whether it’s a good price.

Good luck!

Car should be going for far higher- maybe $3K- haven’t used BAT before; does it tend to have an E-bay style rush at the end? Sweet ride— hope someone catches on and snags it.

I would totally buy it if I had the funds and a place to keep a second car. My Dad owned 2 1985 models up until a few years ago and they are great cars, even if some parts are made of pure unobtanium. Hopefully you can find a good home for it.

Parts aren’t too bad provided you have the number of the guys at Midwest Merkur.

The guys at Midwest Merkur are good but the part that really got my Dad was front fender liners. There was a company who was making them from the original molds but they had the mold crack a few years ago. My Dad got the last set of fender liners to ever come off those molds and as far as we are aware there are no more. All the originals have gotten to the point where you can break of chunks with your hand because they have become so brittle.
